How do I get my website listed on search engines?

It takes 3 - 12 months for search engines to list your website, if they do so at all. Even if the search engines don't list your website, this doesn't mean that they don't know you exist. In fact, if you check your stats, it should show that they are spidering (going over) your web site. Keep in mind you have to compete tens of millions other websites who are already listed with the keywords you have on your site. To get listed, there is a lot of work involved. It can easily cost $10,000 - $20,000 for a company to get you listed. It's extremely difficult to get listed on search engines near the top, let alone at all.

Some search engines look for different things. Do not pay anyone who claims they will get you listed, whether they be cheap or expensive. Most of those that claim they can get you listed, don't work. You can go to Yahoo, Google, and other search engines and submit yourself for free. Again, it is very difficult to get listed properly. Chances are the search engines already know that your web site exists.

For more information on listing your web site on search engines, we suggest you visit Yahoo and Google (and other search engines). Read each search engine's submission requirements and recommendations for getting listed.

People learn about your website a lot of ways. They can learn about your web site through search engines if you get listed, business cards you distribute, client referrals, and advertising. Advertising doesn't have to cost you a thing. You can advertise by going on forums, related to your business, and making a few posts. Be sure to put your website address. Never put your email addresses on forums as it will be picked up by spam spiders.

You can also put a magnetic plastic on the sides of your car doors with your business and website address. This way EVERYONE sees you when you drive down the street. Put your business on the SWB on-line white pages and yellow pages. The more you can get your web site name out there, the more interested search engines will be in your web site! There are a lot of ways to get your name out there that are free. You will get traffic, you just need to be diligent.
